n Hangzhou, you will find the Song Dynasty Theme Park, renowned for its magnificent stage performance every night. Beyond the theater, though, I enjoyed the village itself: Song era (1127-1270) street performers, food stalls, craftsmen, and characters not unlike a Medieval Festival in the west. But the shopkeepers in this image caught my eye. Surrounded by their goods, they sat and stared the night away, a bit of modern reality within a world of the past.

Sally Ross retired from the University of Georgia Department of Language and Literacy, after many wonderful years of working with Georgia English teachers. She now thrives on travel, hiking, golf, and photography, making Scotland the perfect destination for several months every summer.
