See this photo's partner image, entitled "Isolation", showing this house in the context of its incredibly isolated setting in the Northern Highlands of Scotland. On a very different, sunlit day, my friend Sandra and I left the car down on the road and walked up to explore this abandoned croft house. It is now derelict, but the views from this location must have touched many a soul who inhabited it and could see forever in every direction.

Sally Ross retired from the University of Georgia Department of Language and Literacy, after many wonderful years of working with Georgia English teachers. She now thrives on travel, hiking, golf, and photography, making Scotland the perfect destination for several months every summer.
