Artist's Description

Ardvreck Castle stands on a rocky promontory jutting out into Loch Assynt in Sutherland, Scotland at the intersection of A837 and A894. The castle is thought to have been constructed around 1590 by the Clan MacLeod family who owned Assynt and the surrounding area from the 13th century until Clan MacKenzie captured it in 1672 and took control of the Assynt lands.

Sally Ross retired from the University of Georgia Department of Language and Literacy, after many wonderful years of working with Georgia English teachers. She now thrives on travel, hiking, golf, and photography, making Scotland the perfect destination for several months every summer. Sally has always been a photographer, but creating fine art photography has now become a passion, a profession, and a path to learning and personal expression. “My work,” she says, “is often described as painterly, an effect I strive to achieve through my eye as an artist, my sense of composition, and my knowledge and use of the camera as a creative tool.
