Sally Ross

Watkinsville, GA

Sally Ross retired from the University of Georgia Department of Language and Literacy, after many wonderful years of working with Georgia English teachers. She now thrives on travel, hiking, golf, and photography, making Scotland the perfect destination for at least 6 weeks every summer.

Sally has always been a photographer, but creating fine art photography has now become a passion, a profession, and a path to learning and personal expression. “My work,” she says, “is often described as painterly, an effect I strive to achieve through my eye as an artist, my sense of composition, and my knowledge and use of the camera as a creative tool. I have come to understand that the central theme of my work—and my life—is to live and to create art that ‘soothes one’s soul’.”

Most of Sally’s art occurs when she is walking outdoors. “When I travel, I am overwhelmed by the beauty and wonder of everything: views, people, animals, grand sights, and tiny details. When something catches my eye, I find deep pleasure in exploring the image over and over, altering settings, positions, lens, and conceptual perspectives. With a click, I can record and forever savor the moment: the feelings, colors, textures, and shapes that somehow combine to bring peace. As a result, I appreciate this world--and my life--even more.”

Sally uses Nikon D60 and D7000 and shoots in RAW. She does minimal work with Photoshop CS5 to enhance the fine art qualities of her limited edition photographs. She prints her own limited editions of 50, signed, giclee prints using an Epson 7880 printer. Her work has been selected for juried shows, and she enjoys meeting fans at arts festivals and markets.
