Description
Robert Taylor, a wealthy cotton merchant and planter, built this Greek revival mansion as a summer home in Athens, Georgia, around 1844. Henry W. Grady’s father, Major William S. Grady, bought the house from the Taylor family in 1863 while on furlough from the Confederate Army. Henry went on to become managing editor of the Atlanta Constitution. The Junior League of Athens now keeps the house open to the public for rentals and tours, though it is owned by the city of Athens. Dogwood enhance the stately columns in spring.
